I don't even know how that happens, like. Do you fall with your mouth open?

That said, the berry seeds are very toxic and the berry skins are also no good. The juice is ok if you want to spend time removing skins and seeds.

Please be careful HenoftheWoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05923905932330133554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480056929337740687.post-82499582311320800972021-12-01T21:26:47.225-06:002021-12-01T21:26:47.225-06:00Accidently, ate some of this stuff without knowing...Accidently, ate some of this stuff without knowing what is was. But some of the concern is with long-term toxicity as well.

The berry JUICE is edible, too, but the seeds are deadly, and the skins of the berry also should not be eaten. So for me, I stay on the safe sideHenoftheWoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05923905932330133554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480056929337740687.post-7737728554800339682021-09-15T22:55:56.956-05:002021-09-15T22:55:56.956-05:00I found pokeweed growing in my yard this year and ...I found pokeweed growing in my yard this year and decided to try it after hearing stories from my mother about eating wild poke. As it is mid-september, I harvested only the smaller leaves. I soaked in cold water for 1 hour, then did a full 5 minute boil, rinse, and another 5 minute boil with fresh water. I then cooked it in a pan with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. It was delicious, tasting like buttery spinach. I ate a little more than 1 cup cooked, with no issues. We (me, my mom and grandma) boil it once, till it looks like cooked spinach, add a spoon or 2 of baking soda. after it foams up green and dies down, ma called this "taking the wild out" then drain and rinse (no pressing ) then boil new water and cook again for a couple minutes. Nobody has gotten so much as uncomfortable with this method in well over 100 years.Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02237396005718417531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480056929337740687.post-68608504855255861162017-08-18T07:35:16.782-05:002017-08-18T07:35:16.782-05:00Tony Joe White would approve-Tony Joe White would approve-Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
